                             The Genesis 6 Debate

                            My Statement

                            By Richard J Grund

                            February 15, 2011

While there are many others who have better credentials them I do on the topic of the Nephilim in Genesis Chapter 6 such as Chuck Missler, Gary Stearman, Dr. I.D.E. Thomas, L.A. Marzulli, Patrick Heron and others, I feel led to make my position clear.

I personally believe that when the Bible uses the term “Sons of God” in the Old Testament that the “bene elohim” are referring to the angelic hosts.  The debate over this particular part of scripture has been going on for a very long time.  There are many scholars and researchers on both sides of the discussion.  However, we must go to the original source and see what was meant.

According to Jewish tradition and to the Septuagint translation of the Old Testament the obvious meaning is and has always been that the “sons of God” means the “angels of God”.  This was a uniform interpretation by the ancient Jews.  In fact, there is no other belief or position taken by rabbinical teachings.

While there are many critics that do not accept the apocryphal books of Enoch as having validity, I do.  I’ve seen enough verification of its use by the Lord Himself, Daniel and the New Testament writers of Jude, Peter to be convinced by the “two or three witnesses” measurement of Divine confirmation.  The first Book of Enoch, which goes into great detail about the Watchers involved in this rebellion, fills in the blanks and fits into scripture.  Up until 363 AD the Book of Enoch was an accepted part of church teachings.  If it was good enough for the Lord and every teacher before and after Him (until man’s interference at the Council of Nicaea) it’s good enough for me.  So, this interpretation of the “sons of God” phrase is confirmed in Enoch as well as the New Testament passages of Jude 6, 2 Peter 2:4-6; 1 Peter 3:19, 20.

The Hebrew phrase referring to the “sons of God” is bene elohim, appears elsewhere only in Job 1:6; 2:1; 38:7. In these three unambiguously corresponding usages, the relative meaning can be nothing except that of angels. A similar expression bar elohim, occurs in Daniel 3:25, and another, bar elim, occurs in Psalm 29:1 and Psalm 89:6. All of these also again refer explicitly to angels.

The intent of the writer of Genesis 6 was clearly to introduce a monstrous irruption of demonic forces on the earth, leading to worldwide corruption and eventual judgment.   The ensuing judgment of Genesis 6:5-7 only makes sense if taken from this perspective.

                            Genesis 6:5-7(NRSVA)
5The LORD saw that the wickedness of humankind was great in the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of their hearts was only evil continually.
6And the LORD was sorry that he had made humankind on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart.
7So the LORD said, “I will blot out from the earth the human beings I have created—people together with animals and creeping things and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.”

There would be no reason for a loving God to destroy all of humanity, as well as bird and beast, and spare only 8 souls unless this corruption was beyond redemption and repair.  That could only happen if the corruption was supernatural.  A natural theory of intermarriage gone wrong does not justify such an exaggerated response.

The next issue that gives some people problems is the creation of these Nephilim.

                            Genesis 6:1-4(NRSVA)
1When people began to multiply on the face of the ground, and daughters were born to them,
2the sons of God saw that they were fair; and they took wives for themselves of all that they chose.
3Then the LORD said, “My spirit shall not abide in mortals forever, for they are flesh; their days shall be one hundred twenty years.”
4The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went in to the daughters of humans, who bore children to them. These were the heroes that were of old, warriors of renown.

The Hebrew word for “took” from verse 2 is lâqach law-kakh'  which has a wide variety of applications.  Two of those applications are to “carry away, seize and to take away”.  It is my belief that these meanings apply when considered within the teachings of Enoch and the eventual actions and punishment mentioned by Jude and Peter.  This was a forcible taking of wives (plural) with the purpose of propagation, reproduction and the beginning of a demonic corruption of the plans of God for mankind by the fallen angels.

Okay, now that I’ve gotten my scriptural basis for what I personally believe, let’s get to the matter at hand.

The phrase “and also afterward” in verse 4 is indicator to explain where the giants mentioned in the Old Testament (Goliath, his brothers, the King of Bashan and others) came from.  How that occurred after the destruction of the Flood is open to speculation and theory.  I do believe, from personal experience and revelation knowledge given me directly from the Lord Himself, that this is true and ongoing.

There is a group who claim that this position and belief is not only erroneous, but heresy and demonic in their opinion.  Those of us on the side of the aforementioned belief have always presented it as a theory open to discussion.  This group of self-appointed heresy hunters has declared their opinion to be the only correct one and have set out on an insidious campaign to destroy those they disagree with.  While I have not, as yet, been personally targeted (to my knowledge) people whom I care about and consider friends have been targeted.  Two months ago a concerted effort was made by this group, who at the moment I know only to consist of Joe Jordan, Guy Malone and Nicole Malone aka Paradox Brown, to discredit and attack anyone who believes in this theory.  I know none of these people personally and have only interacted with Joe and Guy via email. Facebook and on the online radio show that I host, Reflections In The Dark.  It became clear to me personally during that particular show on June 27, 2010 that Joe Jordan had an intractable, unbending position that all alien abductions and the ensuing experimentation that is reported to have taken place during these abductions is an “illusion” and “did not happen”.  I offered him an alternative spiritual/supernatural perspective but he dismissed it without explanation.  He did not preface any comment with “it is my opinion” or “it is my belief”.  He offered no preface whatsoever.  He presented his view point as dogmatic fact.  The tone of his voice and the conversation that ensued told me that, in my opinion, it would be foolish to try to argue with arrogance.  It was then, and is now, that this discussion is based on theory and opinion and to argue either side is foolish, immature and unprofessional.  That arrogance and unprofessional attitude has us where we are now.

Over the last two months this hard line position that anyone who believes in the Nephilim or reappearance of such are “ministers of darkness” or “fear mongers” has inspired a rift among supposed Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ and become destructive in that new Christians still in the process of healing are being used as ammunition for their viewpoint.   To create You Tube videos and web sites that attack and defame while never mentioning a person by name but giving enough implications and inferences to make their point has its inspiration a misguided demonically inspired heresy hunt.  To also use outside sources who verify their position only to point the reader back toward them for further information is a disingenuous manipulative attempt at controlling the outcome.  I am at a loss as to how these actions further or benefits the Kingdom of God.  It would appear to me that the only kingdom that benefits from this effort is the kingdom of darkness because of the division and hurt this has caused.

My personal point of view regarding the Nephilim, the fallen angels and the reappearance of both have come directly from the Lord Himself during a period of time from March to May 2007.  It was during this time that the Lord told me the “fallen were about to get up” and opened my eyes to the efforts of the fallen through the UFO phenomenon and the abductions taking place since 1947 of finding or creating bodies that their demonic offspring could inhabit where the grafting of the two could be made stronger or even permanent.  It was then that I was led to research what I was being told in The Word and in reference material.  Divine Revelation was confirmed by The Word and by study.  It was also then expounded upon and more insight received.  So, my journey down this road started with spiritual revelation and was confirmed by human writings and research.  Everything the Lord shared with me during that period of time in 2007 has been confirmed, backed up and expanded upon.  The writings of men such as Tom Horn, L.A. Marzulli, Patrick Heron, I.D.E. Thomas and others have helped to fill in the blanks for me to understand and believe this theory.  I have personally come to see the UFO & Alien Abduction Phenomenon as a demonic threat and deception perpetrated by the fallen angels.  So, for Mr. Jordan to take his arrogant, unfounded position has no meaning or effect on me or the work I do for the Kingdom of God.  If I have to choose between his theories or what The Lord Himself has told me I will side with The Lord.

Where I have a problem is with this effort to discredit and attack anyone who adheres to Joe Jordan’s position is in the use of people who are still in the process of being healed.  I find this manipulative and harmful.  I find their position that the only way they can help the victims of alien abductions or visitations is to get them to renounce the experience and admit it was an illusion as harmful and destructive as the experience itself.  It is a means of keeping these people in bondage to their supposed rescuers – i.e. the three mentioned above.  I find it insulting and extremely unChristlike to victimize the victims even more by getting them to admit that their experience and the physical manifestations resulting from that experience were part of their own demonic delusion.  Professional counselors, both secular and Christian, agree that the first step towards healing is facing the issue at hand and getting past it.  Masking it behind the veneer that it did not happen serves to only suppress the event and allow its poisons to fester until a later date.  Using such a technique with a spiritual wound allows the instigators of that wound to return at another time to reopen it and cause more harm.  This does not bring healing but continues the cycle of bondage and torment.

On another note, I also find their subsequent arguments that Nephilim Hybrids are capable of being saved contradictory and another sign of their unstable, argumentative position.  If there are no Nephilim Hybirds why argue that they can be saved?  Which is it?  Do they exist or not?  If not, why argue they are capable of salvation?

This makes me wonder if their true intent is to build their own kingdoms by attacking the works of others instead of building the Kingdom of God.  What is the inspiration behind this obsession on their part to attack those who disagree with their position.  Worse, it makes me wonder if the inspiration behind it is demonic in nature to camouflage the Truth at a time when the deception is the strongest.

Finally, the most obnoxious part of this disagreement is that it takes us off the focus of fulfilling the Great Commission to get people saved, healed and delivered and puts it onto meaningless theological disputes.  Believing in the return of the Fallen and the reappearance of the Nephilm Hybrids in no way diminishes the Lordship of Jesus Christ/Yeshua Hamashiach.  In fact, knowing about an approaching threat inspires a desire and need for an intimate protective relationship with the King of kings and Lord of lords.  I’ve said repeatedly that it’s better to prepare for something that does not happen then to be unprepared for something that does.

This is my complete and final statement on the matter.

Over the 22 plus years of salvation, over 20-years of active ministry and credentials which started with the Pentecostal Holiness Church, a large mainline denomination, in 1990 and now non-denominationally based ministry, I’ve had my eyes set on the job at hand.  This dispute has become a distraction from that job.  I have to be about my Father’s Business and that business is to destroy the works of the devil, set the captives free and restore the faith, power and effect of the Book of Acts church.  If in the process of doing that I encounter the fallen, their demonic offspring or a Nephilim or two…woe be unto them because the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead; the same Holy Spirit the Lord used to speak these creations into existence is inside of me!
